MMTD80A (80 sample thermal demagnetizer). This advanced microprocessor controlled thermal demagnetizer offers the following unique set of features:
- Simple but sophisticated programmable Heat/Hold/Cool cycle, no need to manually move hot samples from a heating to a cooling chamber.
- Sophisticated proportional temperature control with power indicator (not ON/OFF controller).
- Internal calibrated solenoid for creating TRM s. Ideal for ‘double heating’ Thellier experiments.
- 4 layer Mu-metal shields closed at ends with automatic degaussing and our special electronic activation to improve performance. Samples always in a very low constant magnetic field less than 10nT, typically 5nT.
- The oven can be positioned in any orientation, because the shields are closed at one end the oven it can have a north/south or east west orientation, the field remains low.
- Fast cycle, 80 samples to 500 deg C, 25 min hold at 500 deg C, cool to 40 deg C in less than 80 minutes, that’s an average processing speed of one sample every 60 seconds, fast enough to keep up with any magnetometer.
- Non-magnetic and accurate thermocouples, we do not use K type thermocouples in any of our instruments as these can become inaccurate with age.
- Ultra low thermal gradients, Maximum deviation 6 deg C at 500 deg C over full load of 80 samples, 4 deg C over central 40 samples.
- Absolute temperature accuracy 1 deg C, resolution 0.1 deg C, maximum temperature 800 deg C.
- Robust ceramic oven element and virtually unbreakable non-magnetic sample holder for long trouble free operation. Built in radiation shields for ultra low thermal gradients.
- Controlled atmosphere sample holders supplied as standard (vacuum and inert gas).

MMTDSC Super Cooled Thermal Demagnetizer with 3 cooling rates for speed and advanced paleointensity experiments
- Cryocooler for super fast cooling, the MMTDSC is the only commercial thermal demagnetizer that can can cool samples from 700 deg C to below room temperature in 19 minutes. A thermal cycle heat to 500 deg C hold for 15 minutes and cool to 30 deg C takes just 40 minutes. Ideal for Thellier experiments, where speed and repeatability are important, and batch processing of palaeomagnetic samples where a fast throughput of samples is required.
- Three cooling rates for cooling rate experiments, super fast with cryocooled air, fast with normal temperature air and slow (24 hours) natural cooling (ideal for archaeomagnetic cooling rate corrections).
